Bonnie J. Thomas
86, Indianapolis, formerly of Moline, IL, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, October 29, 2014 at IU Health West Hospital, Avon. Services are 11am at First Presbyterian Church East Moline, IL on Friday, November 7.
Born May 16, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio to Ivy and Fay Simpkins, she married Kenneth Thomas September 14, 1950 in Columbus, OH.
Bonnie was valedictorian at Kinsman HS and received a degree in Nursing from Ohio State University. She was nurse at East Moline Schools for 19 years and a member of First Presbyterian for 60 years serving as teacher, deacon, missions' coordinator and choir member.
She had great compassion for those less fortunate and volunteered at several Christian organizations. She treasured her family and enjoyed reading, gardening and travel. She had a keen interest in sports (especially her beloved Buckeyes, Bears and recently the Colts) and in world events.
Survivors include sons, Steven, Mark (Vicki), Pat (Debra), and daughter Barbara (Michael) Homoya; grandchildren, Amy Bash (Brett), Aaron (Andrea) and Wesley Homoya and Eva, Vivian, Hanah, Dylan and Rachel Thomas; great-grandchildren, Emma Thomas and Zane Bash and many nieces, nephews, close friends and faithful caregivers.
Besides her beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Ruth Marsh and a grandchild, Kenneth Homoya. Memorials may be made to Christian Friendliness of Moline and First Presbyterian. Guest book is at http://www.matthewsmortuary.com. Arrangements: Matthews Mortuary.
