Charles Ferguson

Avon - Charles Ronald "Charlie" Ferguson passed away peacefully on June 16, 2021. Charlie was born in Fort Myers, FL on April 7, 1944 to Ralph H. and Minnie M. (Evans) Ferguson, where his father Ralph was serving with the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. After the war, his parents returned to Southport, where the Ferguson family had lived for several generations. As a boy growing up in Southport, Charlie had a paper route and knew almost every family in "old Southport." He and his dad also raised boxers and entered dog shows in the 1950s. After graduating from Southport High School in 1962, he worked for his father for several years, but spent most of his adult career employed as an optical frame Sales Representative. He began his sales career working for Smith-Bridenstine, and before retiring in 2010, spent 14 years with Safilo Group. Charlie called upon ophthalmologists, optometrists and opticians selling frames for eyewear, earning numerous sales awards along the way. Many clients and colleagues became years-long friends.

Charlie was an active member of the Warren Township Lions Club for over 25 years. He loved all sports, but especially both NASCAR and Indy Car auto racing, and I.U. and Indiana Pacers basketball. He also made the annual trip to Louisville to attend the Kentucky Derby for many years. He enjoyed listening to the "oldies" and since his favorite group was the Beach Boys, he saw them in concert on several occasions.

Charlie is survived by his wife Harriet Campbell Peden Ferguson of Indianapolis, son Barry (Vickie) Ferguson of Acworth, GA; daughter Katie (Phil) Ernstes of Shelbyville; stepsons Robert (Jen) Peden of Indianapolis and Bill (Beth) Peden of Olympia, WA; grandsons Alexander (Jill), Christopher, Zachary, and Andrew Ferguson, and Henry David and Owen Charles Ernstes;

great-grandson Alexander Ferguson, Jr.; step-grandchildren Mitchell, Grace and Molly Peden; Lucy, Alice and George Peden. He is also survived by his sisters Lois Lynn (Rick) Hardwick of Belleair, FL and Deborah Wesolowski of Avon, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Minnie Ferguson, his beloved daughter Laura Lynn Ferguson, and his brother-in-law Bill Wesolowski.

The family would like to thank the staff of Avon Health and Rehab for their nearly three years of dedicated care, for keeping Charlie safe during the pandemic and for their always respectful, affectionate caregiving.
