George H. Fields
92, lifelong Mooresville resident, died peacefully at home January 22, 2014. Mr. Fields was born July 9, 1921, in Mooresville to the late Herbert Andrew and Georgie (Conduitt) Fields.
Having played basketball at Mooresville High School and Purdue University, Mr. Fields was on the first Indiana All-Star basketball team and also played professionally for the Indiana Kautshys. Mr. Fields was a farmer all of his life and also owned a Dairy Queen Brazier in Speedway for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Mooresville Friends Church. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Plainfield Elks and also wintered for many years in Naples, Florida, where he was able to golf regularly. He was dedicated to his community and had served on the Mooresville School Board for eight years. Mr. Fields was honored as a Sagamore of the Wabash by then Governor Evan Bayh. He will be missed by a loving family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roscoe Conduitt Fields.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the many dedicated caregivers who assisted George in his final journey.
Survivors include his wife of more than 70 years, JoAnne C. Fields; son, John Jeffry Fields (Carolyn) of Elkhart; daughter, GeorgeAnne "Gan" Baker (Ralph) of Mooresville; grandchildren, Beckie Schoen, George "Geb" Baker, Nathan Baker, and Jackie Beckley; six great grandchildren.
The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 25, 2014, in the Carlisle - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory , Mooresville, with calling there from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, January 24, 2014. Pastor Sue Whitesel will officiate, and burial will be in the Mooresville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mooresville Friends Church.
