George Turner Winston

February 12, 1933 - August 29, 2021

George T. Winston of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 29, 2021.

Turner was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, and grew up in Granville County, North Carolina.

Turner is survived by his wife of 62 years, Cathy; sons, David (Cheryl) and Allen (Jill); daughter, Susan (Steve); and his grandchildren, Krista and Shane Winston, and Joe and Abby Gaidos.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mildred Winston, and his sister, Carol Howell.

Turner entered the United States Navy after high school and graduated Elon University in 1958 with a degree in business. He retired after a 32-year career with GMAC. In years of retirement, he enjoyed golf, hiking, travel, playing bridge with his friends, and mission trips with his church.

Visitation is planned for Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Melrose Baptist Church on 3520 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019, followed by a Memorial Service at 12 noon.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gentle Shepherd Hospice or to Melrose Baptist Mission. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.oakeys.com.
