Gilbert Taylor was a brilliant musician, teacher, curator, friend, and life enthusiast. I always remember him from my earliest days at Witherspoon and Attucks...the youth choir director at Witherspoon, and ever eager music teacher and coach at Attucks. It was Gilbert who gave me my first vocal solo.

He made the Crispus Attucks Museum come alive, and along with my mom Jean Spears, ensured that the neighborhood surrounding Attucks would never lose track of its history and importance to Indianapolis, white and black.

He will be sorely missed, but always remembered for being a true Drum Major!
