Grant Hawkins Obituary

Grant William Hawkins, Sr., passed on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003. In 1937, Mr. Hawkins was appointed Deputy State Fire Marshall in the Arson Division. After a brief employment at Senior Statistician for the National Bituminous Coal Commission, he resumed his role in law enforcement as a patrolman for the Indianapolis Police Department, on Oct. 8, 1940. Upon graduation from the police academy, he received the highest honors in the class. After attaining the rank of Corporal in IPD, Mr. Hawkins resigned from the department to accept the position of Director of Men's and Boy's Activities at Flanner House. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with calling from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28. Additional calling will be from 10 a.m. until services Monday. Interment: Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indianapolis Public Schools Foundation. Survivors: wife, Mary Evans Wiley Hawkins; sons, The Honorable Grant W. Hawkins and Stewart C. Hawkins; daughter, Matti Sue Mosley; 5 grandchildren, Evan S. Hawkins, Kathryn F. Hawkins, Brett J. Mosley, Grant William Hawkins, II, Mary A. Mosley and daughter-in-law, Carol Fox Hawkins. Arrangements entrusted to Stuart Mortuary.
