Although my children, Brett and Mandy were four years apart, they were lucky to have had Mr. Butler as their teacher at West Newton. He was their very favorite teacher. He made learning fun. From their grateful mother, Marsha Quinlin

Jack was a fellow teacher at West Newton. He was an example of a truly dedicated educator. Jack had a dry sense of humor who cared deeply for all of his students. He sought to improve and support his Camby community, He was a gentleman with integrity. He will be missed by many.

My memories of Jack are at the Collins family gatherings to which I have often been invited. Jock always supplied the Brownies and was greatly excited when he received a Brownie pan with sections that meant each person could get a pre-cut piece. Jack's Rail Road Station at his home in Camby has provided many educational opportunities to folks in Decatur Township and I hope, that in some way it can be maintained as a tribute to him. My heartfelt condolences to his Sister, Sue Ellen Collins, my dear friend of nearly 40 years, and all of the Collins family and Jack's friends.

I had the pleasure of working with Jack at West Newton for several years. I appreciated his help and friendship during that time. I'm so sorry to hear about his illness and passing. He will be missed by all.

I knew him as Mr. Butler. He was my 5th grade teacher. He was one of my favorites. What I remember most from 5th grade was filling out deficiency slips and receiving a gideons bible. But, I went back as a cadet teacher and saw him often. He always stayed at work late and he passed me on my bike often in his pickup. One time he clocked me and told me I was going too fast. Ran into him occasionally around Greenwood, especially when I worked at Meijer before they built the one in Camby. My parents ran into him quite often in the Decatur area and annually at the polls. It was always nice to hear that they saw him and he was doing ok. He was a great man, a little mysterious from my student perspective, but definitely a pleasure to be around and have as a teacher. I know he will be missed by myself and many.

I only knew him as Mr. Butler. He was my fourth and fifth grade teacher. I really liked him asa teacher, he was my favorite from my memories. I still remember the rewards he gave me for making a name plate for my desk. I remember him being a nice person and being funny. He lived close to me later in life in Camby, I remember his yard and house looked so meticulous! I could tell he liked to take care of things. I never stopped by to appreciate him and tell him what a great teacher he was. Sadly, I have to say it when it's too late. Thank you for being a great teacher!
