Jack L. Edwards, Sr. He was born December 17, 1929, at home, 2833 N. New Jersey, Indianapolis, IN. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family in Carmel St. Vincent Hospital on Saturday May 7, 2005. He attended Carmel High School 1935 ~ 1947, 1st grade thru Graduation. He joined the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Jan. 22, 1950. He married Janet Marie Davidson, (1932~2003), December 29, 1950. He is survived by his; sister-in-law, Sheryl "Annie" Rhash; 4 children: Jack, Jr. (Brenda McManus), John R. (Kathy Moran), Julie Ann Edwards Sole (Jack Sole) & Jo Lynn (Edwards) Johnson; and 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He loved his children and grandchildren very much and was very proud of them and their accomplishments. He became a member of the Carmel Masonic Lodge #421, May 17, 1956. Resided in Home Place, Indiana from 1934 to present. He enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1948 for a four year enlistment that was extended for one year in I952. Attended training at Hessler Naval Armory in Indianapolis. He was employed with Rock Island Refinery; Herff Jones Company; Davidson-Pegg Plumbing & Heating; Co-Owner Edwards & Son, Inc. Plumbing and Heating, Pumps, Portable Welding; Inventor and patent holder on a Pump Alarm and Control; Licensed Master Plumber, Indianapolis, Anderson and State of Indiana. He was also a Programmer System Analyst, State of Indiana; Group Leader of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) Group; System Engineer, System Analyst, American Fletcher National Bank (AFNB) in the Advanced Planning Group; Co-OwnerOperator of Edwards Little Emporium, Home Place Repair Shop, Flea Market Sales; and a School Bus Driver for Carmel-Clay Schools for 20 plus years. (Finished in first place in the Hamilton County School Bus Rodeo in 1989 & 1991). Retired in 1996. He was popularly known as the local historian Co-Founder of the Home Place~Clay Township Library and Museum. He served on the Building Committee for the Clay Township Government Center. Established the Home Place-Clay Township Library & Museum Archives and Archival Policy. Member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Guided Farley Cemetery Documentation Project for the Clay Township Trustee, Hamilton County, Indiana - Completed October 2000. Member of Central Park Advisory Committee established in August 2003, Member of the Central Park Building Corporation. On Boards of Directors of Clay Township Regional Waste District for 20 years, Greater Home Place Neighborhood Association for 12 years, Carmel Clay Historical Society for 6 years started, a third 3 year term, January 2004. He belonged to the Friends of the Carmel Clay Public Library (Life Member), Friends of The Noblesville Southeastern Public Library (Life Member), Carmel-Clay Historical Society (Life Member), Hamilton County Historical Society (Life Member), Indiana Historical Society, The Indiana Historical Bureau, Home Place Library Detachment of the World War II Round Table, Carmel-Clay Civil War Round Table, inducted into the Carmel High School Alumni Association Hall of Fame June 16, 2001, inducted into the Carmel High School Alumni Hall of Fame April 25, 2004. He was the Co-Author and Publisher of the Histories, A View of Home Place, Indiana (1992), Home Place, Indiana an Introduction (1997), Pleasant Grove Cemetery Article published in the Indiana Hoosier Genealogist, in two parts, Fall 2002 & Winter 2002. Author of: A History Of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church, (A Number of Historic Papers), Places of Interest In Home Place, Indiana, (A Color Brochure), Students of the Mid-1900s, Focusing on the CHS Class of 1947. Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, May 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Leppert Life Story Funeral Home, Smith Carmel Chapel.
