James McDonald Obituary

James G. McDonald, Jr., 72, of Princeton, Indiana, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2004 at Deaconess Hospital, Evansville. Born April 7, 1931 in Princeton, he was a practicing attorney with McDonald and McDonald Law Offices in Princeton from 1962 to 1993. Mr. McDonald graduated from Princeton High School in 1949 and attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN on a football and track scholarship. He graduated in 1953. While there he was a member of Delta Theta Phi Fraternity. Mr. McDonald served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953 to 1955 as a corporal stationed at Yorktown, Virginia. He went to work in Washington, DC as a clerk with the FBI from 1955 to 1957. He was a clerk for U.S. Senator William Jenner from 1957 to 1960 and graduated from American University Law School in 1960. He was a member of the Indiana State and Gibson Co. Bar Associations. He was recognized for his services as a member and former chairman of the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission from 1967 to 1989. Mr. McDonald was a member of the Hillside United Methodist Church, Prince Lodge #231, F. & A.M. No. 231, Hadi Shrine and Scottish Rite in Evansville. He was a member of the Gibson County Sheriff Merit Board from 1971 to 1994. He was a Kentucky Colonel and coached many youth teams including basketball, Little League baseball and Teen baseball. He was one of the founders of the Princeton Youth Football League. Mr. McDonald was a former city attorney for Princeton, Oakland City, Patoka, Francisco and Hazleton. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, arrowhead collecting, antiques, Princeton and Gibson County history and reading. He was a former member of the Kiwanis and Elks Clubs. Mr. McDonald was preceded in death by his parents, James G. and Cleo (Ping) McDonald, Sr. He is survived by Annabelle McDonald and their children, Libby and Jeff LeVie, Charlotte, NC, James G. and Lisa L. McDonald III, Ft. Branch, and Mary Jane and Mike Kermode of Patoka; grandchildren, Jason and Heather Thomas, Amanda, Alexandria and Michael Kermode; a great-grandson, Cale Thomas; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Harold Gourley of Evansville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2004, in Colvin Funeral Home, Princeton, with Rev. Craig Duke officiating. Burial in Columbia "White" Church Cemetery with military graveside rites by V.F.W. Post 1147. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, at the funeral home with a Masonic Memorial Service at 7 p.m. Sunday. Calling also from 12 noon until time of service on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the James G. McDonald Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Dollars for Scholars. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
