James Allen Miles

89, of Indianapolis, passed away on July 9, 2013. He was born to H. Bernard Miles and Bessie Wildman Miles on September 20, 1923. He attended IPS #54, then Arsenal Technical High School, where he was an officer in the Tech ROTC and a member of the Tech Legion. He graduated from Butler University where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.

During WWII, he served as a Lieutenant, J.G. in the U.S. Navy stationed on Tinian Island. He worked at Bridgeport Brass and then in finance for Eli Lilly until his retirement.

He was a lifelong member of Englewood Christian Church, where he taught an adult Sunday School class for many years.

Jim was an avid sports fan, in particular Butler basketball. He also enjoyed playing and watching tennis.

Jim was married to Eileen Hoover Miles for 52 years. They had 5 children: Marcia M. SerVaas (Eric), Mark D. Miles (Helen), Martin H. Miles (Lillian), Marilyn M. Gary (Wyndham), Jacqueline M. Fairfax (Jeffrey) and 20 grandchildren.

He will have a private funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: I.U. Foundation - Alzheimer's Research, in honor of James A. Miles, Indiana University School of Medicine, c/o IU Foundation P.O. Box 660245, Indianapolis, IN 46266-0245. Arrangements: Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel .

Greetings to Jim's family. I am his neighbor who thoroughly enjoyed Jim's company. He was always so appreciaciative of anything I could do for him. And he liked my hugs! He had a wonderful spirit!
