Joseph Pezzullo Obituary

Joseph A. Pezzullo

82, of Indianapolis, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 12, 2015. Born September 23, 1932, in New Albany, his career in secondary education spanned 42 years. Joe coached basketball for 12 years in Southern Indiana, and was a teacher and principal in Richmond for 27 years. During that time, he earned a Ph.D and was a family counselor for ten years.

Retiring in 1996, Joe and Phyllis moved to Indianapolis to be near family.  Joe enjoyed time spent with grandsons, reading, traveling, golfing and keeping in touch with former classmates and students.

Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Phyllis (Cooper); son, Joe III; daughter, Beth (Ray) Stapleton; grandsons, Ted Pezzullo, Conner and Grant Stapleton; sister, Gloria Smith; and brother, Barry (Carolyn) Pezzullo.

Joe willed his body to IU School of Medicine. Memorial service 11 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2015 at St. John Lutheran Church, 6630 Southeastern Ave., 46293 where Joe was a member. Memorials may be given to the church or University of Indianapolis, 1400 E. Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis IN 46209.

I always remember him telling people in class, "Paper, pencil, book and brain, don't forget to catch the train." He was a little stiff and strict as a teacher, but he did have a passion for it and he truly cared about his students.
