Madelyn Gates Obituary

Madelyn "Maddie" Marie Gates 21 months, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008 in St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood, IN. She was born September 14, 2006 in Indianapolis to Scott Douglas and Arika Eileen (Brophy) Gates. She was born with a brain malformation known asHoloprosencephaly (HPE). Madelyn loved attention. She was a true "people person." She gave love in return by her many smiles, her squeals of joy and her excited reactions. She inspired others to give of themselves and to never take life for granted. Madelyn was dedicated in the Macedonia Christian Church near Kokomo, IN. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her twin brother, James Douglas Gates of Elwood, IN; grandparents, Jerry and Leann Gates of Kokomo, IN, Rex and Terri Shepherd of Tipton, IN, Carl and Ginger Brophy of Plainfield, IN; uncles, Todd (Sarah) Gates of Kokomo, IN, J.R. Brophy of Elwood, IN, Nathan Epperson of Tipton, IN. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008 in Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel. Pastor Michael Greenwood will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Tipton, IN. Visitation will be in the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. prior to the service.
