Malcom Hults Obituary
Indianapolis - Malcom Eugene Hults, PhD, 92 years old, of Indianapolis, left this natural world on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 to be with his precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Our kind-hearted husband, father, and friend passed on with his wife and children by his bedside. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce Loraine Johnson, and his children, Carolyn Hart-Hults, Richard Hults (Barbara), and Stewart Hults (Jayne). He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Tyler Hults, Mason Hults, Reid Hart-Hults, Ben Hults, Kirsten Hart-Hults, Matthew Hults, and Jessica Hults.
A descendant of Hoosier farmers since the early 1800s, Malcom was born in Etna, in Whitley County, on June 30, 1926. A United Methodist minister's son, Malcom faced adversity as a youth by surviving the Great Depression in rural Indiana. He then served his country in World War II as a naval radio operator in the Pacific Theater. He graduated from Manchester University in Indiana and did graduate work at the University of Buffalo. An accomplished scientist, Malcom served as Chairman of Ball State University's Physics and Astronomy Department for over 25 years. His research interests included atomic spectroscopy and solar eclipses. His solar eclipse research and his love of travel took him and his family to many exotic and exciting places all over the world. In his later years, Malcom co-founded the Robin Run Retirement Village Big band and played the trumpet enthusiastically. He also enjoyed watching the Colts and Pacers on television and was blessed to have wonderful caregivers that enhanced his quality of life and allowed him to remain independent.
A funeral service will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church, 5252 West 52nd Street, Indianapolis, IN 46254 on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at 1:45 p.m. A viewing and reception will occur beforehand at the church at 12:30 p.m. and a burial service will be held at the Bethel cemetery across the street at 3:00 p.m.

Our sincere condolences to all of the Hults family as Malcom completed his days on earth. We feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to visit with Malcom and Joyce last October and send our love to Carolyn, Richard, Stuart and Joyce as well as extended family members.
