‘The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy’. Mike epitomized this famous quote. Especially so over these last several years. And time and time again, he rose to the occasion in his humble but charming way. A lover of nature, hunting, fishing, gatherings, story-telling, and yesthe occasional ‘celebratory’ cocktail or two. He was ‘as good as they get’. Even though we were separated by thousands of miles, and only saw each other occasionally throughout the years, our friendship and respect for one another was as comfortable as an old worn glove. Always enjoyed his point of viewon everything! With that wry smile and glint in his eye, he could always pull it off. His love for Kathleen and his family was rock solid. When my father (Ray) passed away some 20+ years ago, Mike and Kathleen, along with (partners in fun) Susie and Genie, were there for my Mother (Joan) and affectionately called her ‘Aunt Edna’. They had a blast together. Our family is eternally grateful for that. Mike, we will miss you Dear Friend, but comforted to know that you are now at rest and in a good place. Your spirit will live on forever in the many hearts you touched. Thanks for the memories! Our love and condolences to Kathleen, Susie, Genie, and the whole family. I am so saddened by this news. Joe has kept me informed. I am including a poem for Alexas funeral that Fr Banet shared with me. It speaks to me.

To the living, I am gone;
To the sorrowful, I will never return;
To the angry, I was cheated,
But to the happy, I am at peace;
And to the faithful, I have never left.

I cannot speak, but I can listen.
I cannot be seen, but I can be heard.

Remember me.
Remember me in your heart,
In your thoughts, and your memories
Of the times we loved,
The times we cried,
The times we fought,
The times we laughed.

For if you remember me and think of me,
I will never have gone.

I am so sad to hear of Mike's passing. I was born and raised next door to the Hittles on Southern Ave in Indianapolis, so much of my life as a child involved playing with Mike and his sisters. Mike was a great kid. He enjoyed playing with all the kids in the neighborhood. Mike and his family meant a lot to me growing up. My prayers are with Kathleen and the family.

We are so very sorry to hear of Mikes passing and sending love and prayers to his family and friends. He was a very good student and basketball player for “ Mr. C” at PS #35.
One of his special students that he still remembers and his wonderful family.
Lovingly Remembered from Mr. C

You and Kathleen were the very first friends Kenny and I made when we moved to Florida. Friends who became family. You've been there for every important event in our lives over the past 35 years. You've been the most loyal friend a friend could have. You've been a brother to Kenny. You've been Uncle Mike to Emily and Hunter. I will be forever grateful for the countless memories made and the love and laughter you brought into our lives. It's been hard seeing you struggle, but until the end you never lost your sense of humor. I'm sure going to miss you, but it's comforting to know you're at peace now with your heavenly family, watching over us. We will meet again. Love you, Mikey.

Mikey Dean was so much like his dad, not only in looks but in his humor. I hated the pain that he went through the last years with his back and then this. He was a fighter. May he rest in peace. I’ll bet he is having a beer with his dad right now. Prayers and hugs for you Kathleen and the rest of the family. Words cannot express how sorry Bob and I are for your loss.

My heart goes out to Mikey Dean’s loved ones. I remember his laugh and sense of humor from times of staying with he and Kathleen. He was a warm breeze of friendship to so many people. May his humor and smile envelop his love ones on difficult days.

That smile! Kathleen, when I think of Mikey Dean all I can say is "what a nice guy" he was. The past 13 years had been a struggle for him but I know you and he would not have traded them for anything. Words cannot say how sad I am for you and all of us who knew him. You have my most sincere condolences for the loss of your beloved.

I know you are at peace now and your struggles are over. I knew the last time I saw you that it was not an I'll see you later it was a goodbye. Over our 50 years of friendship / brotherhood that was one of the worst days of my life. Knowing that you are no longer suffering, the great memories we share and knowing you are another angel looking down on us will eventually help me get through this sorrow I'm feeling until we meet again.
I Love you Mike
