Middie Lee Chestnut
June 5, 1919 - November 11, 2014
95, of Avon, Indiana, went to be with our Lord on November 11, 2014. She was born on June 5, 1919 in Darbyville, (Lee County), Virginia, daughter of John Warren Long and Vida (Dillingham) Long.
She married Lee Chestnut on November 28, 1935 in Ben Hur, Virginia. They moved their family to Indianapolis in 1953.
She is survived by seven children; five sons and two daughters, Dr. Roy L. Chestnut (wife Rella), Stella M. Huffman (husband Paul), Rev. Earl W. Chestnut (wife Ella), Rev. Thomas Chestnut (wife Barbara), Benjamin F. Chestnut (wife Josie), Evang. John P. Chestnut (wife Bobbie) and Ruth Jones; 18 grandchildren and their spouses; 36 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, brothers, Dan Long, Everet Long and sister, Mary Crusenberry.
While being a mother and a housewife, she worked at various jobs, Mechanics Laundry, Dual Machine Shop (inspector) and as a seamstress in Indianapolis, before her eventual retirement.
Mrs. Chestnut was a born-again Christian and a former Sunday School Teacher of young girls. She was a member of several area Baptist churches and currently a member of the Hope Community Baptist Church at 3550 SR 267, Brownsburg, IN.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 10 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, November 15, 2014 in Conkle Funeral Home, Avon Chapel (NW corner of State Road 267 and U.S. 36, Avon, IN). Services will immediately follow. Burial will be in South Cemetery, Danville, IN (South of U.S. 36 on State Road 39.

I was blessed to sing today Nov 15 2014 at the Grave side service for my grandmother, Thank you to My wife Cynthia Chestnut whom spent the last 20 years being a best friend to my Grandmother. Thank you Cynthia you are a wonderful wife and Friend Love you . Grandma I will see you in Heaven one day all my Love Johnathan L Chestnut Grandson.
