Pauline Nester Obituary

Pauline Irma (Knarzer) Nester

Speedway - Pauline Irma (Knarzer) Nester, 100, of Speedway, Indiana passed away peacefully on January 25, 2019. She was born on January 14, 1919, in Indianapolis, IN to parents Charles and Anna (Rosner) Knarzer. She attended St. Anthony Grade School and St. Mary's Academy in Indianapolis. She resided at her home in Speedway for 74 years.

Pauline married Paul Ernest Nester, on November 15, 1941 and resided at their only home in Speedway until 2015. Paul preceeded her in death in 1981 and Pauline continued maintaining that immaculate residence until 2015. Her passions were her faith, parking cars for the Indy 500, playing euchre, family, flower beds and roses.

Pauline worked for PR Mallory after high school as a comptometer operator and in 1942 left the workforce to raise her children. She later returned to work at Union Carbide and then in the Purchasing Department of Indiana University located in Indianapolis where she oversaw the accounting department until 1998.

Pauline was a devout Catholic and started nearly every day by attending Mass from the age of 6 to age 93. She was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church from 1941 until her passing. She was active in the Altar Society and worked for years serving food at the annual St. Christopher festival.

Pauline is survived by her three sons, Robert (Sharon) Nester, Donald (Betty) Nester, and William (Reda) Nester, grandchildren Bob (Molly) Nester, Loree Marroquin, Debbie (Randy) Hillenburg, Steve (Hayley) Nester, Jeff Nester, Kimberly (Brandon) Meyer, Kelly (Jeremy) Johnson, Aaron (Stef) Nester, Shane Nester and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family wants to express their gratitude to her last residence, Stonecrest at Meridian Hills and to Brookdale Hospice for their care and support.
