Peggy Bender Obituary

Peggy Bender

57 years old, of Indianapolis, IN, went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 11, 2015, surrounded by her loving family, after a valiant 8-year battle with cancer. Peggy was a lifelong educator, teaching special needs students in Florida, and at a variety of Lawrence Township schools during her 30+-year career. She was an active member of Spirit of Joy and new member of Carmel Lutheran Church, and a multiple-year participant in the Race for the Cure. Peggy's special gift was helping others - including supporting others with advice and support in their personal fights against breast cancer. Her personal credo and word of encouragement to all was FROG (Fully/Forever Relying on God).

Peggy is survived by her  loving husband, Walter Bender, Jr.; children, Walter Bender III, Wayne Bender, and Wesley Bender; mother, Annie Laurie (Eilar) Lindley; siblings, Laurie Serak (John), Penny Billheimer (John), Michael Lindley, and Lisa Harper (Kevin); many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and sisters- and brothers-in-love; along with many special friends, students, and colleagues. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald W. Lindley.

What an incredible blessing it was to know Peggy and to work with her! She taught me so much about special needs children and about life. I will always respect her faith, her knowledge, and her ability to see people for who they are. Peggy's friendship and wisdom enriched my life and that of so many. God has a special place for this amazing woman.

I never met Mrs. Bender, but my daughter worked with her and tells me she was a wonderful co-worker. She made a person feel as she had known them for year. She was also well-respected by everyone at Lawrence Township Schools. My daughter also noted that her attitude was always positive. I know her loss will be felt, not only by her family but by her colleagues, peers and the students she served. Good night, Brave Mrs. Bender
