Richard Dean Merchant
left this world on September 12, 2013. Richard was born in Brook, Indiana to Lloyd L. and Mary Merchant in 1932. He graduated from the University of Illinois, where he became a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda, and maintained his membership for 50 years. He then served his country honorably as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.
Richard spent the majority of his professional career in Air Pollution Control for the State of Indiana.
Upon retirement in Fort Meyers Beach, FL, he and his wife of 45 years, Wilma, who preceded him in death, enjoyed annual trips to Estes Park, CO, Asheville, NC, the Tetons, WY and Crater Lake, OR.
Richard will be laid to rest in a family plot, with relatives dating back to the Civil War, in a private family ceremony.
He is survived by daughter, Mary Merchant Tinkle (Eric R. Tinkle); daughter, Kaelynn Merchant Martindale; grandchildren, Tyler Burgart, Chris Martindale, Emily Martindale Moncada, Dean Tinkle, Sam Tinkle; and great grandchildren, Archer Burgart and Caroline Moncada.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to American Heart Association, American Lung Association, American Cancer Society, or Gamma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Lambda.
