Roberta Shelton Obituary

Roberta June Shelton

Indianapolis - Roberta June Shelton, also known as "Birdie", passed away March 16, 2020 at 10:20 am at the Community East Hospital from the Covid-19 Virus.

Birdie was born to Morris and Ruth Shelton in Indianapolis on February 1, 1951.

She graduated from Northwest High School in Indianapolis in 1970.

Birdie worked for several places including Dept. of Corrections as a correctional officer, IndyGo as a dispatcher and most recently at Enterprise as a driver where she enjoyed driving and working with her fellow co-workers.

In Birdies free time, she enjoyed doing fundraisers to help anyone in need, including the Delphi girls, Abby and Libby. She also was a band promoter for several bands, including her boyfriends, Tony Sizemore that was in the Medicated Minds.

Birdie was very social and enjoyed spending time with her boyfriend, family and friends. Birdie considered her niece and great nephews as "her kids". She enjoyed spending time with her cousins and going to the family reunions where all the family was together and she never missed a reunion. She was the one always tracking down new and old family members and their history. She also enjoyed holding several positions as a member of the Beech Grove Moose Lodge and helping organize several fundraisers there and keeping the Lodge from closing. She also went on a few trips to the Moose Heart in IL.

Aunt Birdie will be most remembered for her BIG heart and the one that would help ANYONE in need.

Birdie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Shelton Sr; sister n law, Cyndy Shelton; and nephew, Robert Shelton Jr.

Birdie is survived by her boyfriend, Tony Sizemore; her 2 dogs, Buddy and Bones; niece, Farrah Gibbens (Jack); 2 great nephews, Jonathan and Jacob Gibbens; and several close cousins, Connie (Fierce) Estrada; Gary Scott; Waynetta (Scott) Wessel; Judith (Scott) Pierson; Glenda (Scott) Ramirez; Nina (Scott) Henderson; and Donald Stantz and other extended family and friends.

Jenkins Funeral Home of Lyons, IN has taken care of this family for decades and has been entrusted with her arrangements by the niece at her aunts' request. Due to the illness, Birdie was cremated and services will be held for the family at a later time at Marco Cemetery.

The family does want to thank the GoFundMe, all of the participants, and Enterprise for financing the funeral arrangements and Pinna Monuments for the donation of the headstone.
