Ronald L. Broughton

Indianapolis - Ronald L. Broughton, 62, of Indianapolis, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, April 26, 2018. Born in Batesville, Indiana on March 27, 1956, Ron was the son of the late Bill and Phyllis (Nickell) Broughton. On June 28, 1985 he was united in marriage to Kathy L. (Roembke) Broughton and she survives.

Ron was a 1974 graduate of Emmerich Manual High School in Indianapolis. He earned a B.S. degree in accounting from the Indiana University Kelly School of Business in Indianapolis. Ron worked as the deputy commissioner of enforcement for the Indiana Department of Revenue for several years, and in November of 2017, moved to his current position as CFO for the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

Ron was an active member of St. Roch Catholic Church where he regularly served as usher at the 8:00 a.m. Mass. He was past President of the board at Roncalli High School and continued to serve on the finance committee at Roncalli. Ron also served as the treasurer for his neighborhood homeowners association.

Along with his parents, Ron is also preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Neal and his sister-in-law, Kristi (Schultz) Broughton.

Survivors include his loving wife of 32 years, Kathy; two daughters, Alyssa L. Broughton of Indianapolis and Amy R. (Eric) Matthews of Brownsburg; three brothers, Neal (Lucy) Broughton of Greenwood, Dan (Jan) Broughton of Greensboro, Georgia, and Leon (Cathleen) Broughton of Indianapolis; and his sister, Cindy Broughton of Indianapolis. Ron was a loving brother-in-law to, Jan (Gary) Crist, Ray (Cathy) Roembke, Barb Roembke, Claire Roembke, Rosie (Paul) Looney, and Karen Morgan. He is also survived by 23 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Ron Broughton from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Daniel F. O'Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis. Morning prayers will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Roch Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place privately and at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial donations to St. Roch Catholic Church or the American Alzheimer's Association.
