Columbus, Georgia- Thomas MacMurrain, Jr., resident of Columbus, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Orchard View Nursing Home. Funeral services are scheduled on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, 11:00am, in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, Georgia 31907, with Reverend Tony Dickerson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00am.
Mr. MacMurrain, son of the late Thomas MacMurrain Sr. and Marcella Selwyn MacMurrain, was born March 5, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York. He served our country honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and after his service, Mr. MacMurrain retired as Letter Carrier from the U.S. Post Office. He was also a charter member at Pinhurst Baptist Church. Mr. MacMurrain loved to compete with the Army Marksmenship Unit in which he won a national award in 1963.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edna Frazier MacMurrain; and son, Kenneth Thomas MacMurrain.
Mr. MacMurrain is survived by his daughter, Patricia Dasenbrock Fuerstenau; sister, Thelma Cox; grandchildren, Jason D. Dasenbrock, Janna O'Neal, Kendra MacMurrain; great grandchildren, Carter Thomas O'Neal, Dylan Thomas Swader; and many other loved ones.

So sorry to hear of "Double SS" passing. We used to have some really good times camping with him and Edna. One of the funny stories that I remember: My small son was with us and he was crossing a creek up at Desota Falls, and Tom saw a water moccasin----he emptied his pistol and never shot the snake. We grabbed up my son and he was OK but we never let the "great marksman" live it down. Will be praying for your family!

It has been years since I saw Tom, but a group of us now aging people used to go camping together, most have stopped that, but Betty and I remember those days when we all had fun.
Sorry to hear of his passing!
