Stella Slaughter Obituary

Stella "Sally" Slaughter

Indianapolis - Stella "Sally" Slaughter, 97, the widow of Harvey T. Slaughter, passed away on May 22, 2018. When Sally was 6, she and her brother Merle were adopted from the Knightstown Children's Home by Josephine and Roy Chaney. Her other siblings were Ethel Lovelace, Donna Gantz, and Boyd Kersey.

Sally is survived by her children: Michael (Michele), Pacifica, CA; Pat Gross (Steve), Carmel, IN; Chris (Karen), Fishers, IN; and Jane Bloom (Donald), Mesa, AZ; her grandchildren: Mark Gross, Carmel, IN; Heather Otlewski, Davidson, NC; and Dakota Slaughter, Fishers, IN; her great-grandchildren: Anna and Jack Otlewski; and her sister-in-law Pauline Chaney, Mooresville, IN.

Although Harvey was the artist of the family, Sally enjoyed a life full of artistic pursuits. Her homes were uniquely interesting because of her collections of books and art painted by Harvey's friends or other artists whose work she became familiar with while serving as a volunteer at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

Her long, well-lived life will be celebrated privately by her family. Sally opted for donation to the Anatomical Education Program of the Indiana School of Medicine.
