Terry Brandenburg

Carmel - Terry Brandenburg, 69, of Carmel, passed away on Jan. 4, 2021. He was born on Nov. 23, 1951, in Lafayette, IN. Terry is missed and loved by many.

Terry was a 1970 graduate of Muncie Central High School and a proud and accomplished 1976 graduate of Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. Terry practiced Veterinary Equine Medicine for 43 years and was known and respected for his knowledgeable, practical, and dedicated approach. As many of his clients found when he retired in 2019, he is impossible to replace. Terry was very understanding to his clients and cared as much for the owners as he did the animals. It wasn't uncommon for Terry to "forget" a bill for someone going through hard times.

He was a very generous, kind and principled man who always took the lead and was there to take care of people in need. He made everyone feel valued and had the strength and patience to give thoughtful and tough advice. He was a loving, supportive, and caring husband to Sue and they shared many adventures and travels together. He was very happy to have found his Sue. Terry cared deeply about his children and was very proud of Brett. He was the best "Grumpa" to his grandchildren. He thrived in this role and had the perfect balance between being stern when necessary and spoiling them the rest (most) of the time.

Terry was a loyal Purdue fan and never missed a game, no matter if he was at home or Mexico. Terry and Sue enjoyed their winters at their home in Mazatlan, Mexico and there will be many that will miss his Hoosier/Spanish accent. They spent countless evenings having dinner and listening to music on the Plaza Machado or just relaxing and having margaritas with friends.

Terry was extremely active. He loved canoeing the Boundary Waters on the Minnesota-Canada border. He was able to truly relax at the boundary waters where there were no motors and he could canoe for days without seeing another person. He was an avid pickleball player in both Indianapolis and Mazatlan and will be missed on the courts. Terry and Sue also loved taking their horses camping and trail riding all over the country. He was an accomplished and patient rider, even when faced with a herd of buffalo.

Terry was a 38 year member of the Lebanon Rotary Club. He served as chair and host of the traditional Octoberfest for the club for a number of years as well as taking part in many service projects. Terry was known in the Bridge community where he belonged to friendly and competitive bridge groups. He was always willing to join in a game and loved coming in first.

Terry is survived by his wife, Sue Brandenburg; son, Brett Brandenburg; daughter, Kate Brandenburg; grandchildren, Nolan, Devin and Bensen; sister, Kathy (David) Segal; step-children, Nikki Gray, Jaime (Kyle) Moore and Simon (Lisa) Ashmore; cousins, Mark, Steve, David, Lisa, Kirk and Eric; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Judith Brandenburg.

Family and friends will gather Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021 for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Strawmyer & Drury Mortuary, 2400 N. Lebanon Street, Lebanon. A funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 15, 2021 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home.
