Thomas Krukonis Obituary
Thomas Nicholas Krukonis 79, of Carmel, Indiana died on Thursday, January 5, 2006. He was born in Chicago, IL to Nicholas and Ona (Rugienis) Krukonis on August 19, 1926. After his father died, Tom and his brother Val were raised by their grandparents on a farm in Rockford, IL from grade school through college. During WW II, Mr. Krukonis served in the Army Air Corps as a Coporal, and in the 39th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron as an engine mechanic. After service, he attended the University of Illinois and graduated from the University of Miami with a B.B.A. in industrial accounting. He was an Illinois C.P.A. Mr. Krukonis' business career spanned 55 years with various manufacturing companies such as Masco Divisions in Carmel and Cumberland, IN, Borg-Warner in Rockford, IL, AMF in Olney, IL, Hammond, IN, and Stamford, CT, and Cape Craftsman in Elizabethtown, North Carolina. Mr. Krukonis married Dolores M. Retterath Rose on September 17, 1971 in Olney, IL. She was the love of his life. He was preceded in death by Dolores, who died in 2000. They were married for 29 years. He is survived by step-children: Brian (Donna) Rose, Lebanon, OR, Scott Rose, Indianapolis, IN, and Judy Rose, M.D. (Ted Burke, M.D.) Albuquerque, New Mexico; a brother, Dr. Val (Mary) Krukonis, Lexington, MA; and grandchildren: Adam Rose, Chris Burke, Rachel Regnaud and Rebecca Regnaud. Mr. Krukonis is also survived by nieces: Mona and Margo Krukonis; nephew, Gregory Krukonis; and brothers-in-law: Norbert (Marion) Retterath and Kenneth Retterath. Mr. Krukonis was a devoted member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Carmel, IN. A memorial service will be announced at a later time. Mr. Krukonis has made an anatomical gift to Indiana University School of Medicine and Dentistry. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent's Hospice Center 8450 N.
