Wendell Brown Obituary

Wendell Larry Brown, Sr. Master Gunnery SGT Wendell Brown, age 56, of Indianapolis, passed May 10, 2007. He was born May 15, 1950 in Memphis, TN. He is survived by his wife, Vernice Brown; four sons, Wendell Larry Brown, Jr., Robert Ernest Brown, Michael Anthony Brown, Mark Aarron Brown, brother, Larry Ernest Brown, Jr. (wife Delores); nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in passing by his father, Larry Ernest Brown, Sr., and his mother, Sara Bell Brown. Wendell was a proud retired U.S. Marine after 30 years of service. He enlisted in the Marine Corps. June 10, 1968 and completed basic training at the Marine Corps. Recruiting Depot, Parris Island, SC. After training, he was assigned to Food Service School, Camp Pendelton, CA and later completed the Basic Cooks School- Camp Johnson, SC. Subsequent tours of duty include Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment-Vietnam, various tours at Marine Corps. Recruiting Depot - San Diego, CA, Hq. Battalion 3rd Marine Division - Okinawa, Japan, Weapons Field Training Battalion - Camp Pendelton, CA, Southwest Area 6th MCD Recruiter - Atlanta, GA, and Operation Desert Storm - Saudi Arabia. Wendell retired from the Marine Corps. June 30, 1998. Wendell came to Indianapolis in May 2001 to work for Center Plate Catering at the RCA Dome and Convention Center as Executive Steward. On May 10, 2007 Wendell received a call from Heaven while at work. Without hesitation, he responded, as always, humble, loving, and ready. There was an opening in Heaven for a dedicated, caring, and loyal Executive Steward. Wendell accepted the position. He will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to have known him. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 17 at Stuart Mortuary, with calling there from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
