William Edward Gritt
82, Indianapolis, died Monday, March 19, 2012. He was born on January 14, 1930 in Indianapolis to Arthur and Zelpha Clements Gritt. He was an engineer working in machine design at Diamond Chain for many years. William was a founding member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church, the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Lupus Foundation. He was a racing enthusiast and a race car driver in the 1950's.
William is survived by his wife, Barbara McNulty Gritt; sons, Bill Jr (Lisa) and Mike (Julie Ryker) Gritt; daughters, Mary E. (Frank) Rankin, Peggy Gritt; sisters, Mary Kay Lashbrook, Joan Gritt and Jeannie O'Hara; brothers, George (Carolyn), David (Betty) and Tom (Sue) Gritt; grandchildren, Frank, Dan, Debbie and DeeDee Rankin, Jenni (Dustin) Pridemore, Nick Dietz, Autumn, Jonathan, Holly, Joshua Gritt and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Martha Gritt and brothers, Joseph and Bob Gritt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday March 24, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Barnabas Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Daniel F. O'Riley Funeral Home where prayers will be said on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. prior to Mass. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
