ALICE SMITH

1927 - 2021

SMITH ALICE (nee TROUT) Of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, age 94, passed away at her residence in Richmond, Virginia on July 12, 2021. Alice was born in Gap, Pennsylvania in 1927, attended Upper Darby High School, and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She was married to her husband, William Stevens Smith, for 48 years until his death in 2001. Alice was actively involved in the Episcopal Church, played the organ, and worked on the Altar Guild. She loved gardening and classical music. Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, William Stevens Smith, and her parents Charles Livingston Trout and Edith Swiegart Trout. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Stephen, Andrew (Deborah), and Johanna (Thomas) Coulter; and eight grandchildren. Service and Internment will be at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in memory of Alice T. Smith be directed to Dr. David Guyton's Research at The Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute and sent to: Kathy Anglemyer, Sr. Assoc. Director of Development, Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute, 600 N.
