Andy Chan Obituary

Chan Andy With deep sadness, we announce that Andy Chan passed away on December 2, 2025, at the age of 55 after sustaining critical injuries in the line of duty while serving his city and community. Andy's life was defined by his unwavering love for his family, his deep pride in his Philadelphia Chinatown roots, and his commitment to protecting and uplifting others. He was the beloved husband of Teng Chan; devoted father of Thaisen, Adam, and Adrianna; loving son of Yun Mou Chan and Lin Ying Lee; and cherished brother of Serena Chan (Simon Yip), Alan Chan (Bonnie Ngai), Alexander Chan (Connie Law), and Albert Chan (Angel Wong). Andy is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom he treasured dearly. Andy was born in Philadelphia and raised in Chinatown. He graduated from Roman Catholic High School, Class of 1989. Andy began his law enforcement career in Ocean City, New Jersey, in the summer of 1993 and later served as a police officer with the Philadelphia Housing Authority in 1994. Andy then attended the Philadelphia Police Academy and graduated in 1995. He served with honor and distinction for over 24 years as a proud veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department. Andy began his career in the 39th District and worked there for nine years before achieving his ultimate goal and fulfilling his childhood dream by earning his way into the elite Highway Patrol unit, where he became known across the city as the face of the department. He was famous for greeting everyone with his signature "Highway!" and "Highway Forever!"-a reflection of the pride he carried for his work and for the brothers and sisters who served alongside him. His dedication to public service was unwavering, and he exemplified integrity in every aspect of the job. Andy was a real-life hero and one of the first on the scene at the 2015 Amtrak crash, where his actions helped save many lives. With a larger-than-life presence, a heart of gold, and a smile that could light up any room, Andy's impact extended far beyond his uniform. After an on-duty motorcycle accident left him with severe and life-altering injuries, he fought with incredible strength, resilience, and an unbreakable spirit for six years. His love for his family and his determination to keep going inspired everyone who knew him. Andy truly was the best of us, and his service, sacrifice, and legacy will always be honored and remembered. Family and friends are invited to Andy's Life Celebration on Monday, December 15, from 6:00 P.M. to 9 P.M. at Holy Redeemer Chinese Catholic Church, 915 Vine St., Philadelphia, PA 19107, and on Tuesday, December 16, from 8:15 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, 1723 Race St., Philadelphia, PA 19103. A Funeral Mass will follow at 12 PM. Interment services will be held at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to any of the following in Andy's honor: Holy Redeemer Chinese Catholic Church, https://holyredeemerccc.org/#donate, The Families Behind the Badge Children's Foundation, https://www.fbbcf.org, and The Philadelphia Police Foundation https://phillypolicefoundation.org/
