ANN McDOUGAL, 85, of Cathe-dral Village, Roxborough, PA, formerly of Swarthmore, PA, on December 17, 2014, from the consequences of Alzheimer's disease. Mrs. Carey was born on June 27, 1929, in Geneva, Illinois, to Edward D. McDougal, Jr. and Katharine Blayney McDougal. She was educated in music at Radcliffe College and at Mills College, where she was valedictorian of her class. She became a teacher at the Shady Hill School in Cambridge, MA and developed an interest in children with reading difficul-ties. She married pediatrician William B. Carey, M.D. on July 21, 1956; the couple lived in Philadelphia and Wallingford, PA before moving to Swarth-more, where they resided for 49 years. While in Swarthmore, Mrs. Carey was instrumental in the opening of the Trinity Cooperative Day Nursery and the local A Better Chance (ABC) house. She enjoyed chamber music, opera, bird-watching, and vacationing in Maine. She is survived by her husband, her brother Edward D. McDougal, III of New York, NY, her daughters Katharine, Laura, and Elizabeth Carey, and three grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held on January 24th, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. in Cathedral Hall at Cathedral Village.
