Dr. Ann Gillis Waiters

Waiters Dr. Ann Gillis, edd Dr. Ann Gillis Waiters transitioned at home on August 8, 2023. Ann was born and raised in Philadelphia, as the only child of Ruth Gillis and Charles Thompson. She graduated from Bensalem High School. Ann received her BS degree from Cheyney University and her Master's and Doctorate degrees from Temple University. In her 50-year career as an educator she was a teacher, adjunct professor, an administrator and founding principal of Bodine High School for International Affairs. After retiring as the Superintendent of William Penn School District in Delaware County, Ann worked as a consultant, developing Charter Schools in Philadelphia, Arizona and New York. Ann was the founder of Maritime Academy Charter High School in Philadelphia. Ann served her community as a member of the Delaware Valley (PA) Chapter of The Links, Inc., and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She also served on the Board of her Condominium Homeowners Association. Ann is survived by her husband Eugene. Their son Anthony preceded her in death. The Family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to Cheyney University Foundation Resurgence Fund in honor of Ann Gillis Waiters, Class of 1961. Checks should be written to Cheyney Foundation, PO Box 200, 1837 University Circle, Cheyney, PA 19319. The Celebration of Life Service will be held on August 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM. The Funeral is private.
