I arrived in Philadelphia in 2000 to work on a campaign and stayed. Bayard and I remained close due to the fact that he supported PP and candidates who were pro-choice. We would meet often and chat politics over the 17 years. He would come to events and brighten the room. I'm very sorry to hear that he fell ill and passed. I will be making a contribution in his memory to Planned Parenthood. My thought are with his family as they mourn the passing of one of the most dynamic individuals I have met in my time in Philadelphia.

Bayard and Francy were such wonderful supporters of the Penn Museum. I had the pleasure of working with Bayard over the years. He was a fiercely caring and loyal person, and I and my colleagues at the Penn Museum will miss him greatly.

I met Bayard about 25 years ago at a Penn lecture that my mentor and advisor was presenting. He scared the pants off me with his challenging questions and comments. So quick in grasping the holes in an academic argument but presented with such finesse and clarity! I admired him so. Meeting up with him in the last 20 years, refined my opinion. A wonderful loving person; full of joy and curiosity; passion for life and family and places like the Penn Museum. I will cherish these memories forever and wish great comfort to his family and friend.

Bayard has been such a force for good and for progressive politics as long as I have lived in Philadelphia. His commitment to use his resources to make change was enduring. He not only opened his checkbook, but he made time for the organizations that mattered to him. His wit, wisdom and generousity will be missed.

Bayard was an outstanding neighbor and enjoyed our occasional Christmas parties and we enjoyed his presence, good wine, and lively intelligence and sense of humor many times. His gym comings and goings were an inspiration as he gamely trudged back and forth to keep going. He will be sorely missed. Heartfelt thoughts to all his family.
