CHARLES McGROARTY Obituary
REV. MSGR. CHARLES E.
Passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Holy Redeemer Hospital, at the age of 86.
Beloved son of the late Edward V. and Margaret M. (nee McBride) McGroarty. Devoted brother of the late Jane M. Eret, the late Edward V. McGroarty Jr., and the late William J. McGroarty. Also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
Msgr. McGroarty served as Director of the Family Life Bureau, Archdiocese of Phila. and was Pastor Emeritus of St. Matthew Church.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Matthew Church, 3000 Cottman Ave., Phila. PA 19149 at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to The Friends of St. Matt's at the above address would be appreciated.

May your loving soul be at peace with Heavenly Lord. I've always enjoyed your sermons at St. Joseph's Church in Collingdale. You've always joked about how long you talked , even so I really loved listening to you. You spoke from the heart. You always had that Pop pop (grandfather) quality about you , such a very sweet man. You will truly be missed.

Msgr. Charles McGroarty was a great priest and a man of devotion and commitment to the ongoing values of family life in the Catholic world. As a professor at St.Charles Borromeo Seminary he was readily available for open and honest discussions on topics of the sanctity of human life and any other topic of a student's interest. He was a man of great devotion and spirituality and he will be missed by many, especially this former student and cousin. Hugh J.McNichol IV, KHS.

I can only add a few more adjectives:
Hard-working, witty, calm and filled with humility.
His homily on Corpus Cristi about the Real Presence was outstanding.
We will all miss him but we take comfort knowing WHO was waiting for him. And I can't help thinking St. Patrick accompanied him.

Champion of Catholic education. Monsignor was such a devoted priest and had a great zest for life I felt privileged to serve with him at Saint Matthew parish and school. He was an example of all that is good in a priest of God. Rest In Peace and know how deeply you were loved in your ministry as a priest. A true legend!
