CLORINDA MARGOLIS Obituary

MARGOLIS

CLORINDA "COCO" G. (nee Goltra) of Philadelphia, age 80, on March 31, 2011. Survived by husband Joseph, daughters Lovegrove Hunter and Jennifer Friedman (William), and her husband's children, Paul Margolis, Mike Margolis and Naki Irvin. Also survived by grandsons Adam Friedman and Quinn Blackwell, great-grandson Pierce Blackwell, sister-in-law Phyllis (wife of Coco's brother, the late David Goltra) and good friend Eva Tillman.
Coco was a pioneer in the mind-body connection, including the use of hypnosis with standard medical procedures. She achieved unprecedented results using hypnosis to control bleeding in hemophilia patients and relieve pain in burn and cancer patients. She was Principal Investigator of reseach contracts with the National Cancer Institute and St. Agnes Burn Center in Philadelphia, and was Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Thomas Jefferson University's Jefferson Medical College.
A gathering to celebrate Coco's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Coco Margolis Memorial Fund at the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society.

I just discovered this website 2017. It is with a heavy heart to know that Coco no longer is with us. She was inspiration as a woman, clinician, friend and human being. We spent many hours talking about life and hypnosis. My heart goes out to her family.

If there was a memorial service I am so sorry I didn't know about it. I knew Coco in the late 70's -- she was my mentor in many ways and I always felt her warmth and concern whenever our paths would cross over the years. I remember celebrating her daughter's marriage on South Street many years ago -- it was a real happening. She was in a class by herself and will always be a part of my heart.

I never had the joy of personally knowing the iconic Coco, but like so many others, bask in the light she ignited in the world.I now wear a a straw hat almost identical to hers. My sympathies to her family, and to all who knew and loved her. Peace.

I remember fondly the years I spent working for Coco at both Jefferson and Margolis & Shrier. She was an amazing person and boss. To Joe, Jenny, Lovegrove, Billy, Adam and Quinn: I am so sorry for your loss. RIP Coco.

I learned with great sorrow that Coco had died and want to express my sincerest condolences. I remember her with great fondness and have known her since about 1980 when I started to get training in hypnosis work and joined our local clinical hypnosis society. I am a psychologist. May she rest in peace and may her family heal from such a loss. Julie Meranze Levitt

I had the privilege of videotaping some group therapy sessions for Coco when I was a high school senior. 35 years later, I am a clinical psychologist and credit her as one of my early role models. I had a great deal of admiration and respect for her. To her family, I hope that your memories will be a comfort to you.

I just learned today of Coco's passing. She was a wonderful, warm, caring and dedicated person. At various times I was her patient, student and always an admirer. Our world is richer for her having here, and poorer with her loss. Her teaching will go on throug her many students,I am proud to have been one of them Jacques Lipetz
