DAVID LESHAN Obituary
DAVID J.
Born in New York, David graduated from Cornell and Columbia. He became an English teacher on a whim, when he went to work at Solebury School in New Hope, PA in 1960. There he met his wife, Mary (Polly) Evans Leshan, and began a 42-year career teaching young people to write. At his retirement in 2002, he was chair of the English Department at Germantown Academy.
David enjoyed retirement, traveling to kayak on three continents. He spent summers kayaking and sailing on Cape Cod, where he volunteered as a water tester with the Buzzards Bay Coalition.
David lived at Foulkeways in Gwynedd, PA with Polly. They had 3 children, Erica, Alison and Tim, and 4 grandchildren. His sister, Emily Samton, lives in New York. Beloved family and friends will remember and celebrate him and his sharp wit.
A Memorial Gathering will be celebrated at 2 P.M., on Sunday, December 29th, at Foulkeways in Gwynedd, PA.

David was my writing teacher in my senior year at Solebury in 1976...he was a wonderful teacher and person. He helped me discover some confidence in myself. I loved him and never really got thank him for all he offered.

David Leshan was a most prominent individual in my Solebury School experience during the 1960s. To this day I retain strong memories of writing an essay about the Haymarket Riot of 1886 for his 11th grade English class. David provided strong support as the head of boarding boys on the Solebury campus during my Junior year.
