Denise Brahms Obituary

BRAHMS

DENISE ELIZABETH (nee Kinky), of Haddon Heights, New Jersey, lost her battle with breast cancer on January 2, 2008 at age 37. Adored wife of Kurt W. Brahms. Loving mother of three-year-old Jacob Patrick Brahms. Dear daughter of Marcita Kinky Pipito and the late Gerald Kinky. Cherished sister of Sharon (James) DiRienzo, Colleen Kinky Butterworth, Stephen (Cynthia), James (Janet) and Neil Kinky. Beloved friend of the Wira and Ballier families. Adored by her in-laws, the Brahms family. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins who loved her dearly. Denise grew up in Haddon Heights. After she graduated from Haddon Heights High School she earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. After graduation, she was a Pharmacoeconomics Fellow, Pharmacy Department, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, then became an Ambulatory Care Clinical Specialist. She was manager of the CVS Pharmacare store in Center City Philadelphia. Denise was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2002. Two years later, she defied the averages by becoming pregnant despite having gone through extensive chemo and radiation treatments. During her third trimester, she developed a brain tumor. She underwent brain surgery in June 2004 at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Two months later, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Jacob, also at Jefferson. For almost six years, family and friends hopefully watched as she courageously and tenaciously battled the metastasized cancer that eventually claimed her life. Throughout her chemo and radiation treatments, she never complained. She was brave and strong in her struggle yet gentle, serene and uncomplaining to those around her. She will be greatly missed by family, friends, co-workers and the many medical professionals whose lives she touched. Relatives and friends of the family may call Sunday Evening, 6-9 P.M. at the EVOY-BANASZ FUNERAL HOME 129 White Horse Pike, Haddon Hts., NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, 10 A.M., at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, 4th Ave. and Kings Hwy., Haddon Hts., NJ. Interment, Calvary Cem., Cherry Hill, NJ. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Denise Kinky Brahms Memorial Scholarship Fund for Students of H.H.H.S., c/o Commerce Bank, 500 White Horse Pike, Haddon Heights, NJ 08035

Our thoughts are with you and our sympathy goes to her husband Kurt and little Jake the most of all, as well as to the whole family and friends of Denise.
Even though we didn't know her for such a long time, we got to know her warm heart and kindness - we admire Denise's strength as she went through the last couple of years as wife, mother and person like she was, always fighting the cancer and still thinking positive.
She was a beautiful and happy woman with such a warmth in her heart. Denise will be missed.

Aunt Neesie,
Your smile will forever burn in my heart. I will never forget you and everything you meant to me. I will always remember the words you used to guide me. I am grateful for the time I had. The lives you touched made them worth living. You gave us Christmas and yourself as the most valuable gift. All the memories of good times keep us laughing through the tears. I love you.

My beautiful friend...

I am honored to have known you; shared secrets with you, laughed with you, cried with you, shopped with you, cooked with you, cleaned with you, planned with you and dreamed with you. I am and will forever be, blessed to have had you in my life and will continue to cherish those memories in my heart until we meet again.

Rest easy my beautiful friend.

My deepest condolences to the Kinky family on their loss of Denise.

I knew Denise since we had worked together at Leopold's Pharmacy. Although now people will remember her for the vibrant and sweet person she has been, as a friend, a mother, a wife and a family member, I will remember her jump shot. She was a heck of a basketball player.

She contributed greatly to the soundtrack of my life as well. She would always introduce new music to me until I was hooked on a new band or artist and I would return the favor by making mix tapes she could listen to on the speedline going back and forth to school.

Always bright and charming, and always good for a laugh and a smile she was as sweet as could be as a teenager and remained so through adulthood.

The last time I saw her I knew she had been having some tough times but she never let on just how tough they were, so I never asked. We just talked about how time flies and it seemed like only yesterday we were laughing it up at Leopold's Christmas parties and how afterwards a group of us would pile into cars and check out the Christmas lights in the surrounding neighborhoods and towns.

So I thank her for adding to my life as I am sure she always adding something to everyone she encountered. She was always a giver, not a taker.

I also thank her for adding to the soundtrack of my life. Her contributions will always be remembered. Recently, in her honor, I have been playing sets of Genesis to remember her by.

May God bless her always.

Denise was the pharmacist who worked closely with our practice at The Children;s Hospital of Phila, serving kids and families with HIV disease. I loved working with her, she would do anything to get meds for kids when the insurance companies would deny them.

I will miss her, no matter how crazy things were , she always made me laugh.

My prayers are with her family, friends and co-workers at the pharmacy.

Sincerely,
Denise Ramsden RN
