DR. ANTHONY G. ROEDER

ROEDER DR. ANTHONY G. Age 88, passed away on November 19, 2025. A resident of Berwyn, PA for 52 years, Tony was born on June 22, 1937 in Crescent City, CA to Murdock Roeder and Gertrude Deltorchio. Those who loved him and will miss him include his beloved wife, Betty Roeder, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage, their five children, Amy (Jeff), Andy (Laura), Dr. John (Andrea), Beth (Richard), Meg (Scott), and sister Debbie Bommarius, of Magalia, CA. Grandchildren are Ian, Anna, Matt, Jack, Arianna, Malcolm, Libby, John, Caroline, Andrew, and Thomas ("Scout"). A graduate of Del Norte High School in Crescent City in 1955, he went on to graduate from The Catholic University of America, where he and Betty met. Tony earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of California San Francisco in 1965, after which he served in the United States Navy until 1967, when he joined Jack Reimer, DDS in Ardmore, PA. In 1973, he moved his dental practice to Paoli, PA where he remained until his retirement. Tony was an early advocate of preventive dentistry. He could communicate the benefit of prevention meaningfully, and embraced the philosophy that "the best dentistry is no dentistry". He advocated against mercury fillings and stopped placing them in 1973. He always had the latest technology and was considered cutting edge by his patients and peers. During his practice, Tony achieved a post-doctorate degree in Integrative Medicine from Capital University in Washington, D.C. He served as president of the American Society of Preventive Dentistry from 1973-1974. He was also active in the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, the International Academy of Biological Dentistry, and formed professional groups exploring alternative dental modalities. Tony found golf extraordinary and enjoyed playing at St. David's Golf Club and Stonewall. He explored Ireland and Scotland, once playing 36 holes a day for 21 days straight in Ireland. He espoused the finer points of golf, finding joy where others found frustration. Tony was a daily jogger. He completed numerous marathons, including New York and Boston. He felt so strongly about nutrition and food that in 1980 he opened a natural food restaurant in Paoli, The Sprout. Tony was a daily communicant and Eucharistic Minister at St. Monica Catholic Church until his later years. A Viewing is scheduled on Friday, November 28 from 4 P.M. - 8 P.M. at ALLEVA FUNERAL HOME, 1724 E. Lancaster Ave., Paoli, PA. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, November 29 at 11 A.M. at St. Monica Catholic Church, 635 First Ave., Berwyn, PA. Before the Funeral Mass, there will be an additional Viewing at 10 A.M. Interment and reception will follow.
