Donald Rosato Obituary

Rosato Dr. Donald J. A lifelong resident of Devon and Chester Springs, PA passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, at 90 years old. He was a distinguished figure in the medical and the equestrian communities. Born on December 28, 1934, Donald was the son of Dominic Rosato and Olga DeLuca. He grew up in Devon, attending Tredyffrin Easttown High School, which later became Conestoga High School. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Villanova University, his medical degree from Temple University, and a Ph.D. in Public Health from Harvard University. After his academic pursuits, Donald proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. As a major and flight surgeon for the 11th Air Assault Division, he was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. In 1967, Donald returned to his hometown of Devon to take over his father's medical practice at 176 East Conestoga Road, where his family have lived for four generations since arriving from Abruzzo in 1893. Donald proudly continued the legacy of his father, caring for generations of local families until he retired in 1999. Beyond his medical career, he was deeply passionate about the equestrian world. For four decades, he was a familiar and beloved presence at the Devon Horse Show, where he showcased carriages with immense skill and artistry. He was primarily known for driving a four-in-hand to his Roke by Coach at the Devon Horse Show, winning many blue ribbons. His dedication was formally recognized in 2023 when he was inducted into the Legends of the Devon Horse Show. An avid fox hunter, his passion for fox hunting was evident early as young Don would follow Syl Quigley's local pack on foot and later on pony through southern Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties. Decades later, Donald was appointed Joint Master of the Hunt at Pickering in Kimberton, PA for many years. He embraced the traditions and camaraderie of the sport with great enthusiasm. Dr. Rosato was a member and served on several boards of charitable, historic, and social organizations, as well as having donated many coach rides to benefit various charities. He appreciated the classics in literature and music, especially opera. Donald is survived by his loving wife, Judith Miller Rosato, and his three sons from his first marriage to Lillian Anna Hirschbeck Wister: Thomas (and his wife Judy), Donald, and Robert. He is preceded in death by his parents, Olga and Dominic Rosato, his 1st wife Lillian Anna Hirschbeck Wister, and his brothers, James R. Rosato and Edward Rosato. He leaves behind a legacy of dedicated service, a profound love for his family, and a lasting impact on his community and the world of equestrian sports. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to The Devon Horse Show, Ludwig's Corner Horse Show Association, or Kimberton Hunt.

Donald Rosato will be very missed. He treated my girls and me to a carriage ride and showed us his carriage collection. Also a glass of "Polo Punch". A very larger than life man.

As a neighbor of Don and Judy´s for many years in Chester Springs, my kids and I will miss his smiling face, fun attitude, amazing carriage rides through the scenic neighborhood countryside and his huge personality! What a pleasure to have so many awesome memories of Don, Judy, their beautiful horses, welcoming nature, and wonderful celebrations over the years! Great neighbors, great times and great memories! Don will be missed and never forgotten

RIP Dr. Don. I only met him one time. Years ago, at the horse show, in his barn. He was very welcoming and a fun guy to have a drink with.
