Dear Family and Friends of Edward:
I never met Edward but upon viewing his works today I am overcome with a great sense of loss. He was a truly gifted individual. May the beauty of Ed be long recognized through the public recognition of his work as well as in the hearts of all who knew him. My deepest condolences.

Dear Matalon Family,
Not only was Ed off the charts from a creative perspective. He was also one of the most intelligent & funniest fellows I ever met. I'm honored to have known him and called him a friend. My hopes are are that in the the great hereafter he gets everything he wants and a little extra on the side.
Peace to Ed!

Dear Vivienne, Terence and family,
I am heartbroken to hear of Ed's passing. I will always cherish my fond memories of him -- deep down, Ed had a sincere and good heart. A good friend, giving and caring, he was also a brilliant conversationalist: funny, silly, and definitley colorful. I am saddened by his tragic loss but comforted in knowing that Ed is now at peace. My deepest condolences to you all at this difficult time.

Vivienne and family,
I can't even express how sad I am for you and our loss of Ed. I think it will not be for many years till the art community realizes his contributions. Ed was my best friend and my mentor and I am absolutely devasted. I am truly grateful to him for all the memories and my gallery simply wouldn't be here without his guidance through the years. I will miss his daily calls but know that I am always here to share memories with anyone that wishes to know how special he was. He always spoke of his love for his sister Vivienne. His art will outlive us all and that is a wonderful thought for me, now he is our angel to watch over us.
My prayers and thoughts are with you,
Michael

To the Matalon family,
I was stunned and heartbroken to hear of the tragic loss of a long time friend and fellow artist. I met Ed in the early 1980's while attending the Rochester Institute of Technology. We shared laughs, had amazing meals, and always seemed to agree on at least one aspect of any given topic of conversation. Always outspoken, he showed a uniqueness of vision, a brilliance of wit, and depth of knowledge that separated him from most of our contemporaries. He will be missed -my deepest sympathies go out to the Matalon family.

Dear Vivienne and Edward's family,
I own a small photography gallery in Sacramento, California. Ed always impressed me with not just his limitless abilities as a photographer; but, his knowledge of the arts in general. His sardonic sense of humor always brought a chuckle. He will be missed. With my deep condolences.

To Vivienne & Ed's family,
My deepest sympathies are with all who knew and loved Ed. I met Ed at an art exhibition in Baltimore in 1992. With his brilliant mind, exceptional talent and wicked sense of humor we became fast friends and Ed encouraged my own photography and mentored and tutored me for years, even after I left Baltimore for further graduate degrees. Ed came to my Harvard graduation, took stunning photographs there and gave me "Blur," my favorite of all his photographic work. I have this masterpiece of photo collage hanging proudly centered in the middle of my living room in Bangkok where I now live and work running HIV/AIDS programs for the US government in Southeast Asia. I thought of Ed often, and harnessed skills which he taught me, while preparing my latest photographic exhibition, "Transcendents", a fundraiser for a local AIDS prevention group in Thailand, in Bangkok this summer. I am so sad to learn of his tragic passing but will always remember him fondly.
With deep regrets,

We send to you our heart felt sympathy. For we have lost a Dear Friend and you a brother. Even though we are unable to be there in person..Please know we are there in our thought and prayers...and we are thinking of you and all of your family during this trying time. Ed was a true friend who has always been there for us..He has made all of us laugh and cry..but most of all he was a constant reminder of what true friendship was. He stood at our side as we said our wedding vows..He celebrated birthdays and milestones with us. He has seen our children grow. He will never be forgotten.. He will always remain in our hearts. May he now rest...He will truely be missed by all who had the honor to get to know him as we did..
