FLORENCE SLAUGHTER Obituary
Born in Petersburg TN, Mrs. Slaughter moved to Philadel-phia in 1952, where she attended nursing school. In 1969, she and her husband, James Slaughter, moved to Williamstown NJ, where he died a year later. She was a nurse at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital, and retired from there in 1980.
Mrs. Slaughter was a member of St. Matthews African Methodist Episcopal Church in Philadelphia where she was a licensed missionary.
Preceded in death by her husband, James; her niece, M. Ophelia "Phoebe" Harper of Fayetteville TN, and her parents, John L. and Mabel H. Smith, she leaves behind her cousin, Leah V. Bennett of Staten Island NY; 3 nieces, Yolanda Stewart, Mary Dixon and Brenda Bryson, all of Fayetteville TN; the Brown Davidson Driver Smith families; and her church, St. Matthews AME in Philadelphia.
Viewing will be Saturday, May 31st, 10:30 to 11:30 A.M., at HAWKINS FUNERAL HOME, 5308 Haverford Ave., Phila. A Graveside Service will follow, 12:30 P.M., at Rolling Green Memorial Park, 1008 West Chester Pike, West Chester PA.

We loved the stories she told about our family history and how we started this 74 yr reunion under a tree. And she knew all the cousins there! May she rest in peace knowing we all loved and respected her. And we shall continue the family reunions that she loved to attend & will love and honor her memory.

You have my deepest sympathy I never had a chance to meet mrs florence but i felt like i knew her from lia conversations she adored her and through lia i was able to cook her a meal that she enjoyed may God welcome her home with open arms rest in peace mrs florence; Amen
