GERTRUDE COPPERMAN Obituary

COPPERMAN
DR. GERTRUDE FREEMAN

After a long and rich life, Dr. Gertrude Freeman Copperman passed on March 1, 2017. She was a primary care physician for 50 years, some with her past husband, Reuben. Anti war, pro abortion, civil rights and many community involvements. A long life of athleticism, many eclectic friends, and mother of two beloved daughters. She will be remembered and missed by many, most notably Joan of Massachusetts and Barbara of California. She leaves a smile in many hearts.

I miss her scramble eggs she used to make for me. I can still remembered her saying to me, " eggs are the perfect food, so eat up!"

Dr Gert was my beloved doctor for many years until she retired. She saw me through routine checks and a bladder infection and a biopsy on a breast lump which turned out to be benign. As I waited for her I loved looking at that photo from Penn graduated class with her in the middle of all these men.I'm very sad to hear she passed. My heart goes out to her family. I wish I could speak with her daughters.Your mother was a role model for me. Strength, kindness, brilliance, beauty! When I saw her after my father's death she spent two hours with me on a rainy late afternoon... I was the last patient...she shared with me about her losses.I loved Gert. Thank you, Dr Gertrude Copperman, for all your good care of us - your patients. I take you with me in my heart.Nancy Santamaria

Listen here...Dr. Gertrude Copperman was anything but short of amazing. Gert was not just activist, author and an excellent doctor who knew her craft but a friend who provided me with written doctor's excuses when I would missed my college exams on several occasions. Gert Copperman was much more.she was my mentor and a true friend :).
I met Gert in early 90's at Beachcomber where we played competitive tennis on a weekly basis. As a young man, she taught me the values of life and the importance of health and love. During those years, our friendship blossomed and crazy enough she graciously took me under her wing. Matter of fact, she even taught this poor ole boy who was afraid of swimming how to windsurf at Marsh Creek in her late 70's, and later showed me its never too late to rollerblade down Philadelphia's Kelly drive in her 80's, crazy huh?....yea that was the kind of amazing women she was.
Today I'm devastated just to find out about her passing. The world has just lost a truly amazing woman. The values you taught and instilled in me will definitely be passed on. We'll catch up on the otherside.I love you Gert.RIP!

I loved Dr Gertrde she became my doctor when I was 11 years old until she retired. My grandmom Sarah was her housekeeper. I would sometime help my grandmom out while in high school.
After high school I worked in her 54th Street office where I learned so much. She was so encouraging she helped me a great deal. I certainly learned how to answer the telephone properly.
My grandmom loved you girls so much
My family and I extend our sincere condolences on your loss in Jesus name
