JACOB JACOBSON Obituary

JACOBSON
JACOB, Nov. 16, 2012 of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully, at the Abramson Center for Jewish Life, with his loved ones by his side. Jacob was born in Poland and was captured by the Nazis who forced him to perform slave labor for years before a fortunate set of circumstances allowed him to cleverly escape. Jacob's entire family except for one uncle, the late Abraham Jacobson of Margate, perished in the holocaust. After spending several years in displaced persons camps in Germany he immigrated to the United States in 1949. While in the displaced person camps, Jacob befriended fellow survivors, Ben and Mollie Feldhendler with whom he reconnected in Philadelphia in 1951. Thus began a lifetime friendship. Uncle Jake, Yaya, worked with the Feldhendler (Feld) family for the next 40 years until his retirement. He was instrumental in the founding of Today's Man, a clothing store chain that the Feldhendler's sons David & Larry opened in 1971. Jacob was active in the Association of Jewish Holocaust Survivors in Philadelphia. He was a gentle soul and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving nephews David and Larry (Jill) Feld and his dear niece Gert (Ed Kline) Novin. He was a devoted great-uncle to Samantha, Chaim (Debra), Ben, and Max Feld and Lindsay (Evan) Kornhauser and Bud Novin. Loving great-great uncle of Mollie Kornhauser. Relatives and friends are invited to Graveside Services 12 noon precisely Monday at Rodeph Shalom Cemetery, Northfield, NJ. Shiva will be observed at the Residence of Gert Novin and Ed Kline. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Association of Jewish Holocaust Survivors, c/o Miriam Caine, 423 Waring Street, Philadelphia, PA 19116.

Jake was a kind and sweet man. Our family has known Jake and his Uncle Abe since 1946--they were at my parent's wedding and relationship carried over to the US and lasted until their passing. May Jake's memory be for a blessing.

So sad to hear of Jake's passing. My late parents were close to him and his Uncle Abe. I remember him well as being a kind and wonderful man.

My deepest sympathy to those close to him.
