I just attended his funeral and have to say that it was one of the nicest I've attended .His family really did well in speaking of him at the service which is very hard to do! They really did get his "message" which is his legacy. Even I felt at peace there. My niece,Denise, spoke so well of him and his scriptures.I am very proud of her and my nephew,Shawn,in how they are raising their family in his values.

Poppy was always the happiest person in the room, even through his toughest battles. He fought so hard throughout his life, from the Navy to his cancer to his last infection. He was always close with God, passionate about his word, and always giving to others, even when he had little to give. Poppy touched my life in so many ways, and it was the little things that made such a difference: hearing old stories, staying over the house for a night, and all of the little gifts he offered to my sister and I, and all of his other grandchildren and great grandchildren. I am so grateful for having my grandfather. He will forever inspire me to be generous, to trust God, and to bring joy to the lives of those around you. He will stay in our hearts forever. We love you so much Poppy.

Wendy,
We are thinking of you and John and the girls. We did not know your dad, but we know a piece of his legacy through your family, so he must have been a great man. We hope that your memories comfort you during this difficult time.
