Jim Solano was my professor for the first three accounting courses at Temple University during the early 1970's. He was a great instructor and mentor, and had a great sense of humor. When taking an Advanced Accounting course, I ran into Jim at Speakman Hall and told him that I had scored a 98% on my Advanced Accounting Course mid-Term Exam. He looked at me and asked, "Didn't I teach you better than that?" He will be greatly missed.

I was sad to hear about the passing of Professor Solano. I was extremely fortunate to have Prof. Solano as an accounting teacher during my graduate studies in 1992 at Philadelphia Textile. Prof. Solano was a tremendous teacher who truly cared about each student and worked hard to assure their success. Prof. Solano left a lasting impression on me that continues to this day. I was fortunate enough to cross paths with the Prof. over 15 years ago one evening and he could not of been more welcoming. I was grateful I had the opportunity to let him know how instrumental he was to my not only career achievements, but my growth as a person. Such a kind and caring man that all of us will remember fondly. My deepest condolences to the entire Solano family.

I am so sorry for your loss. He taught me accounting at Phila Textile in the early 1980s.. He was an excellent instructor, so highly regarded and well-liked by the students.

Jim was a friend of mine. we played a lot of golf together, mostly as an opponents because of our handicaps. probably played 500 matches against him...I won 12. I have fond memories of Jim and the 7th hole at the Iron Horse country club. The 7th hole is a par 3 ,150 yards over a lake to a over sized green.I remember Jim lining up a two foot putt and taking a long time to do it. We told Jim the hole was over, the putt was good, he insisted on finishing the putt, it was for an 8. he missed it.
The 7th was also where Jim had a hole in one. We had what was called
" whip out if someone had a hole in one the group had to "whip out " a
$100.00 bill and give it to lucky player, the three of us gave up the prize,
Jim was excited and couldn't wait to finish 8 and 9 and tell pro shop about his shot. He kept asking me why I was smiling , after just loosing $100.
You see Iron Horse has this policy , if a player has a hole in one . he has to buy the three guys in the group a pair of golf shoes. Still have mine, with my name on them. Thanks Jim...Thanks for alot of fond memories
Vic, Phil and all the guys will be telling stories about you until we meet on the tee for our next round with you. You were always the last one to arrive on the tee for our match.. this time you will be waiting for us
See you soon... Al

I am so sorry to hear of Jim Solano's passing. He is the reason that I entered the accounting profession 47 years ago. As an undergrad at Temple, I had planned on attending the Law School. At that time, two semesters of accounting were required as part of your undergraduate courses. Jim was my first accounting professor, and was so great that i changed majors and had him for my first three courses. As a graduate student, Jim and I were in the same Micro Economics course. He was a mentor and an inspiration, and will be greatly missed.
