Grand mom Joan,
It is Thanksgiving day 2010, another day where your enter my heart in the form of another beautiful memory. I'll never forget the year Andy and I hosted our first family dinner and we overcooked the turkey. It was so pathetic looking that I sent him out for another one. Luckily, Joan came down took one look at it and said "Peg it's not that bad" we can fix it and she did. Joan could make a great meal out of anything. We miss you and all the good times that we had together. Love Always, Andy, Peg, Sam, Jess and Drew.

Mom, it's been a little over two months. A new year has started and I continue to feel as though I've had a heart amputation performed a plastic spoon. I miss you terribly.

Unconditional love is what you provided to me, in addition to unsurpassed guidance and loyalty.

You were truly wise to the world and one of its best inhabitants, never saying a cross or hurtful thing about anyone, even when we both knew it was warranted.

You taught me patience, though some may not believe that.

You permitted me to learn the hard way when you knew it was the only way that my hard head could possibly learn the lesson required and patiently held my hand along the way...then politely pointed out that I could have learned the lesson much easier had I followed your advice from the beginning.

I miss our daily talks and visits interspersed with laughter, an occasional disagreement and, of course, your words of wisdom.

Mom, you truly were a plethora of knowledge. I guess in some ways, in hindsight, I may have taken you for granted, never realizing how well read and intelligent you really were. You seemed to know how to do everything. How'd you do it?

I've lost track of how many times in the past two months that I've reached for the telephone to call and ask your opinion about something, inquire as to how to perform some arcane task that no one else even knows what I am talking about, gossip, or just to see how your day was.

Hundreds came to see you off. Old, young and in between. Every color and creed. Yet many still have no idea. How telling of you...a friend to each of them.

I dreamt of you a few nights ago and God only knows how I wish that I could hear your voice again.

Thanks for being such a good mom and friend to me.

To Mr. Spiller and all the family..
Mrs Spiller to me was an ear to listen, a smile to share, a shouder to cry on. I'll miss her in her kitchen holding court with all who visited. Certainly, in this time of sadness for everyone, there can be happiness that she lived well and laughed often and was endeared by all who crossed her path.
God Bless...

We are so sorry to hear about your mom(grandmom). I got to work along side her at the polls this past primary season and, although she had obvious health problems, she kept me laughing all day. She was friendly and popular with many of our neighbors who came to vote. You could tell she really enjoyed this job and making people laugh. Since I was new at it, she really helped me that day by showing me the ropes. I didn't realize how funny she was until I got to spend the day working with her. Of course, my husband's family knew her for a long time and always liked the Spillers. Having a large family of our own, we can definitely relate to what the house must have been like growing up. With a mom like Mrs. Spiller, it must have been fun! Our prayers and our thoughts are with you at this sad time.
