JOHN J. DEVLIN

DEVLIN JOHN J. Of Fox Chase in Philadelphia, PA, passed away on January 14, 2024 at the age of 74. He was the beloved husband of Barbara Devlin; devoted father of two sons, Bryan Burke (Melissa) and Sean Devlin (Riddhi); loving grandfather of Liv and Hunter Burke; and cherished brother of Charles Devlin (Pieter), Margaret Tull (Steve), Edward Devlin (Susan). John will also be greatly missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends. John was predeceased by his parents, Margaret "Midge" Keashon and John "Jack" Devlin. Chief John Devlin excelled as a firefighter and leader in the Philadelphia Fire Department (PFD) over a 40-year career, retiring at the rank of Deputy Commissioner in 2013. His life of service to others continued as a volunteer at Fox Chase Cancer Center and the Philadelphia Second Alarmers Assoc. John also served as a board member of the PFD Foundation, Fireman's Hall Museum, and the Pennsylvania Yacht Club. John led by example, always building up the people around him with patience, kindness, and a signature sense of humor. He was greatly admired by those he taught and mentored, enthusiastically sharing his vast knowledge and skills. His love of water and nature led to many lasting friendships through his hobbies of fishing, hunting, and most especially boating. Family and friends are invited to John's Life Celebration on Sunday, January 21st from 10 – 12 P.M. at the JOHN F. GIVNISH FUNERAL HOME, 10975 Academy Rd., Philadelphia, PA 19154. A Funeral Service will be held at 12 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations to Fox Chase Cancer Center will be appreciated.
