As the anniversary of Jack's passing approaches, I look at my file cabinet and see a favorite children's book. I have been retired for almost 10 years and still love quality children's literature. Today a friend told me about her love of marmalade. I related the book, "Five Minutes Peace" and a complimentary Mother's Day celebration. Like "Miss Rumphius" I now live by the sea. Like Jack and "Miss Rumphius", I too hope to leave the world better than I found it. Sharing good books with great teachers, parents, and children is a wonderful legacy. Thank you to the creator for the
everlasting gift of Dr. Jack McGovern.

During a major house purge, I came across our final projects from. "Good Books for Great Kids". We took this course with Jack at Cabrini in 1990. Because of Jack, I went on to write several successful grants that included children's literature. In the book, "Miss Rumphius", the main character is charged with leaving the world better than she found it. With every "good book" Jack introduced a teacher to, who in turn shared it with a classroom of students, the world is more beautiful with children who love quality literature and reading. Dr. McGovern was truly a gift to many an educator and students alike. May he continue to rest in love and appreciation.

Jack was a great influence to many educators, myself included. A true gentleman and scholar who will be missed. My condolences to his family and friends.

Jack was Head of School when I selected Plymouth Meeting Friends School for my son, a happy K through 6 thru student. Peter could be a clown and sometimes got into trouble. Jack once stated that no matter what Peter had done, he always told the truth. Jack was a wonderful role model and truly enrolled us in PMFS. Thank you, Jack, and our love goes out to his family.

I had Jack as a professor for numerous classes as a graduate student at Cabrini University. His love of literature, learning and life was contagious. I had the pleasure of running into him at a professional conference just a few years ago. I’m so glad I had the chance to tell him that he made an impact on my teaching and the way I approached the use of beautiful literature in my classroom.

Jack lit the world of literacy for so many students, at every level, with his smile. His work will never die.

John was certainly an influence to many educators and students. His work at the Bucks IU was well known. We all learned a great deal from him. My condolences to the family.
