Dr Worthington (and his RN Mike), literally saved my life. I had all but given up on ever getting over my demons. My sessions with Mike and the Doc never had a time limit, nor were they relegated to one topic. They spent a great deal of time talking, considering, caring. I felt a duty not just to myself, but to them, to be a success story. I am so sorry it took me so long to find this page. I hope his family gets to one day read these stories and helps them to know what a truly amazing man he was. Thank you Doc. You were truly a special man. And, fwiw, I did become (and will always remain) that success story.

Our son was treated for 10 years by the greatest man, Doctor and genius at the young age of 20. We were SUPER BLESSED to have him in our lives. The Dr. who treats him now, and everyone we know LOVED HIM AND SO RESPECTED HIM. THANK GOD FOR DR. WORTHINGTON!!!

I had the privilege of working with Dr Worthington for years giving anesthesia for his ECT patients. It truly was a loss for all those patients when they stopped providing that service at Abington Hospital.
We used to talk about Saint Mary his beloved wife, the Eagles, Iowa and many other things.
He was always teaching and sharing his knowledge to the med students on up to nurses and attending phycisians.
He was a sartorial genius even though he always gave Mary the credit.
Well done Dr Worthington, rest now you are missed.

Please accept my deepest sympathy. I had the pleasure of sharing a number of patients with John over the years at Abington Memorial Hospital. He was tireless in caring for these patients, and always had something to offer them. I vividly remember one patient on 3 B, a classic catatonic patient who stood facing the wall when I tried to evaluate her. I saw her again several weeks later after John's treatments, and she sat on the bed conversing normally with me. It was one of the most remarkable recoveries I ever witnessed in all of medicine. John will be missed my me, and all who were fortunate enough to know him or work with him.

All of John's colleagues, residents and students from Abington remember him as one of the best clinical rotation teachers. He had an explosive laugh that made you want to laugh. Whether in service to his country, his family or his patients, John always gave his best.
Fondly,
Colleagues from Abington Hospital
