Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services Friday, 12 Noon precisely, GOLDSTEINS' ROSENBERG'S RAPHAEL SACKS, 6410 N. Broad St. Int. Adath Jeshurun Cemetery. Shiva will be observed Tuesday, 6 to 9 P.M., at Congregation Mikveh Israel, 44 N. 4th St., Phila. PA 19106. Contributions in his memory may be made to Congregation Mikveh Israel.

What a gentleman! I had the pleasure of working with him in St. Louis for approximately 8 years (he was actually my boss). I watch him perform majic in transforming one of the worst neighborhood in St. Louis into a jewel that continues to flurish to this day. He became a confidant, mentor and more importantly a friend. I will always cherish our friendship. Rest well Mr. K.!

jonathan was a special gift to St. Louis during his tenure at Missouri botanical garden- Our conversations were always simple & personal- his visits w us were a culinary adventure that a chef appreciates - we have missed him for years RIP

I knew Jonathan Kleinbard throughout the 1980s when I worked at the Development Office at the University of Chicago. He was my go-to-person whenever I needed relevant information about the Hyde Park/Kenwood neighborhood so that I could appropriately draft letters to thank a major donor. At the time, he was vice-president for external affairs and community relations. He had started working for the university's administration at the age of 24; and by the time I had met him, he was in charge of all sorts of initiatives related to the Southeast Chicago Commission and local real estate development. He also oversaw the University of Chicago police (a/k/a Unicops) and sometimes went out with them on overnight stakeouts, putting in double shifts. Extremely dedicated to his job, he once told me that he owned a number of parrots and other large pet birds but wasn't home enough to take the best care of them. Mr. Kleinbard was always friendly and good-natured and a pleasure to work with. He will be missed by his colleagues and all those who had the honor to know him.

Jonathan took several chances on me earlier in my communications career at the University of Chicago, for which I have always been grateful. The greatest fun we had was planning and publicizing the university's centennial in 1991-92. He pushed us to think big, and we did, with great media coverage and lots of projects current and historical.
Jonathan had to be talked into allowing the rom-com When Harry Met Sally to be filmed on campus--we had to assure him that there wasn't off-color content. All went well and the movie gave a substantial boost to college admissions.
Jonathan made a long-lasting contribution to the university through his relationships with city government and his truly indefatigable work with neighborhood organizations.
