JOSEPH "JOE DOC" DOUGHERTY

DOUGHERTY JOSEPH J., JR "'JOE DOC" 80, a proud East Falls and Northeast Philadelphia resident passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. Joseph was the beloved husband of Angela J. Dougherty (nee Barrulli); loving father of Joseph J. Dougherty, III (Elaine), Brian C. Dougherty (Rachel), Anne Marie Dougherty (Steve), and Sarah C. Dougherty; devoted stepfather of George, Joseph, and Jeana Jamison; proud grandfather of Joseph J. Dougherty IV, James C. Dougherty, Caitlin McMonigle (Daniel), Case and Colm Dougherty, as well as his great grandchildren Daniel and Conor McMonigle; Joseph is also survived by his adoring sister, Judith Roberts (Joseph) and her children, Joseph (Kelly), Christopher (Vaughan) and Anthony Roberts as well as many extended family members, friends, the officers, staff, and entire membership of Ironworkers' Local Union No. 401. Joseph was predeceased by his former wife Patricia Anne Dougherty (nee Haley), his parents Catherine T. and Joseph J. Dougherty, Sr., and his brother Charles J. "Skip" Dougherty. Joe Doc was a revered member of Ironworkers' Local Union No. 401 for 55 years, holding the highest office of Business Manager/Financial Secretary Treasurer for over 30 of those years. He was an icon of the labor movement, champion of the union construction industry, and a tireless advocate for worker's rights and the American dream. He was extremely active in communities across our area, coached and promoted youth sports, volunteered on many city, state, and local boards, and collaborated with numerous charitable foundations and non-profit organizations in an effort to help those who were suffering or less fortunate. He gave his time, talents, and treasure to help countless people and their families live a better life. He loved his family and the Members of Local 401 passionately who were the anchor of his dedication, hard work, sacrifice, and success. He will be forever loved and painfully missed by all who knew him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Sunday April 10, 2022, at JOHN F. GIVNISH FUNERAL HOME, 10975 Academy Rd., Phila., PA 19154 from 4-7 P.M.; and again, on Monday April 11, 2022, from 8-9 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Maternity B.V.M Church, 9220 Old Bustleton Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19115 starting at 10 A.M. Interment to be held at Resurrection Cemetery Bensalem, PA.
