JOSEPH GREENE Obituary

GREENE HON. JOSEPH FRANCIS, JR. 92, of Haddonfield, New Jersey died on Thursday, November 18, 2021. Joe was born to Joseph Francis and Margaret Lynch Greene in 1929, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Vineland, New Jersey, attended Sacred Heart Grammar School in Vineland, and was a 1947 graduate of Mount Saint Joseph High School in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1951, and in June of that year was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Joe was assigned to a 4.2 mortar company in the 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, and shipped out of Camp Pendleton, California for Korea. During the Korean War, his unit conducted supporting fires for troops and harassment of the enemy. After his service, Joe earned his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law School in 1956, but not before marrying his lovely bride, Bernice Marinelli of Hammonton, New Jersey in 1955. Joe and Bernie were married for 66 years. They lived in Haddonfield, New Jersey as Joe practiced law, first with Willie, Purnell and Greene in Camden, New Jersey, and later in Haddonfield with Brown, Connery, Kulp, Willie, Purnell, and Greene. In 1986, Joe was appointed to the New Jersey State Superior Court in Camden, where he served in active and recall status until 2002. Joe was a past president of the Camden County Bar Association. Joe was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren at the Jersey shore. He was also active in the Catholic community at Christ the King in Haddonfield, and Saint Paul's in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. Joe is survived by his wife, Bernie, and sister Cecilia Greene McCarthy, of Malvern, PA. He was predeceased by his brother, John Greene, and sister, Margaret Greene Stubee. Joe is also survived by his five children, Carol and husband Paul Kaplun of Chevy Chase, MD; Stephen and wife Karen of Carlsbad, CA; Michael and wife Betsy of Gulf Stream, FL; Mary Jane of Narberth, PA; and Kathleen and husband Kevin Maynard of Chevy Chase, MD; ten grandchildren and their families: Catherine and Joseph Bonanni, Matthew Kaplun; Thomas and Kate Greene, and Patrick Greene; Emily, Sara, and Christopher Greene; and Maggie, Mollie, and Emma Maynard; and two great-grandchildren: Giulia Bonanni and August Greene. Viewing will be Friday, December 3rd from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Haddonfield, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 4th at Christ the King. Will remember the times at stone hardor New Jersey. Short sheeting the beds. Telling us about the king wave and sending us kids to get ice cream at springers to get us out of the house. Will always remember you Uncle Joe

It was always fun and a good time whenever we got together. The camping trips, the time we just hung out. Mike's birthday dinners with Mrs. Greene's amazing Manicotti. Mr. Greene will always be remembered fondly in my heat.

Mrs. Greene, Steve, Mike, and Mary Jane you are in my thoughts and prayers. I loved the camping trips we took together to Canada and VA.

Joe was a great friend and a fun person to be around. We enjoyed taking our families camping, playing tennis, socializing, rooting for our kids at sports events, etc.. I admired him as a great husband, father, friend and lawyer. To Bernie and family, I express my deepest sympathies for their loss. Remember all the wonderful memories that you have of him.
